Talk about Pyrric victories...

  • Playing: Lars-Erik Larsson's Concertino for Viola III
So I won this concerto competition. Yay! I have no idea how it happened since so many people who entered I would consider better than me! But whatever. I was ecstatic until I realized that I now have 2 months to learn, memorize, and perform the other 2 movements of the concerto (Lars-Erik Larsson's Concertino for Viola and String Orchestra; look it up, it's pretty cool). On top of the fact that I have to re-memorize my old concerto (Cecil Forsyth's Concerto for Viola and Orchestra, 1st movement only, thank God; but this one's even cooler) for a recital and an audition. And I'm working on a piece (Bach's 3rd Cello Suite - Prelude; pretty much the easiest piece that would perform the desired function, so I could focus my mind on more important tasks) for the State Solo Festival so I can go back to All-State, because I think I'll die if I get rejected. All-State was amazing, and I met amazing people, and everything just felt so right for once. I mean, I've always felt out of place in a lot of places because I'm such and orch-dork/band-geek. But everyone at All-State was and orch-dork or a band-geek, except for those chorus kids that we generally spent very little time with because they were too damned fixated on Andrew Lloyd Webber..*ahem* But I digress. Anyway, I have 4 movements of pieces to work on, not counting the college audition music that I'll soon start working on. And let's not even talk about the astounding pile of AP homework from 4 different subjects. There's a facebook group called "AP teacher think AP = Life. I hate that." It pretty much describes my life. And then there's the school musical. And orchestra music. Ugh, let's all hope I make it through these next few months without being institutionalized.
